The brand removed 2.6 million thermal cups; a failure in the threads on the covers of 2 models posed the risk of injury
Stanley recalled around 2.6 million thermos bottles in the United States this Thursday (Dec 12, 2024) after 38 users suffered burns. The North American CSPC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) identified a flaw in the lid thread of 2 of the company’s models, which had “burn risk” when exposed to heat.
According to a note released by CSPC, the threads on the Switchback and Trigger Action models shrank when exposed to heat, which caused the lid to come loose and cause accidents. Here is the release (PDF – 245 kB, in English).
“Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled travel mugs and contact Stanley to receive a free replacement lid.”the regulatory organization said in the statement.

In a press release, Stanley said that “addressed the problem” and that it will offer free covers that fit the recalled models. “At Stanley 1913, we are committed to constant improvement and focused on creating quality products that are built for life”he stated.
