Senator Hamilton Mourão (Republicanos-RS), former vice-president of the Republic between 2019 and 2022, criticized it and said that it represents an “override” of the laws.
“General Braga Netto does not represent any risk to public order and his arrest is nothing more than a new page in the violation of legal norms to which Brazil is subject”, posted Mourão, who is also a retired general, on X (formerly Twitter).
Other members of the opposition also began to speak out on social media. Representative Luiz Ovando (PP-MS) followed the same line.
“Braga Netto arrested for ‘alleged’ obstruction. They created the fantasy of a coup to persecute opponents, with Moraes as guardian of the legal-dictatorial regime”, wrote Ovando in X.
