The Portuguese Olympian is participating in the national junior and senior championships in the 25-meter pool that run until Sunday in Tomar.
This Saturday, Olympian Diogo Ribeiro broke the national record for the 100 meter butterfly in a short pool, during the Nationals taking place in Tomar, taking 25 hundredths off the previous best mark.
To qualify for the 100 butterfly final, the Benfica swimmer stopped the timer at 50.35 seconds and improved his national record in the distance – he had swum 51.00 in December 2023.
World champion in the 100 butterfly title (in a long pool), Ribeiro has another opportunity to break the record this afternoon, in the finals that will be played from 5pm.
On Friday, the 20-year-old had already won the 100 freestyle in 46.87 seconds, his third best record in the short course distance.
