German Chancellor Scholz becomes the top candidate in the federal election

Potsdam – Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz was elected on Saturday as the top candidate of his ruling Social Democrats for the early federal election on February 23rd. In Potsdam on Saturday, 109 of the 120 SPD delegates voted for him. Eight delegates voted no. Scholz is running against German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock from the Greens in his Potsdam constituency. He won the direct mandate in the 2021 federal election.
