The government of Acre, through the State Secretariat for Social Action and Human Rights (SEASDH) and the Government Secretariat, announced on Friday, December 13, the granting of the transitional housing grant benefit for a period of 90 days for the 33 families who are camped in the hall of the State Legislative Assembly.
Families that meet the legal requirements may have their social rent extended for up to three years. The meeting that discussed the matter was attended by the State Public Ministry.

The Government Secretary, Luiz Calixto, began the meeting by explaining the opening of dialogue with the movement and emphasizing the government’s efforts to begin the process of granting the benefit.
“At this moment, the State is recognizing everyone’s vulnerable situation, Governor Gladson Cameli and Deputy Governor Mailza Assis determined the guarantee of human rights while evaluating who is within the law for the use of social rent.
Furthermore, the government’s proposal included the requirement that families register for housing programs, with the right to participate in draws to purchase their own home, as requested by residents.

Henrique Afonso, chief of staff of the vice-governor and head of SEASDH, highlighted that the negotiation process with families evicted by court began in January.
“Social rent is an important measure to realize the right to housing. The State is ensuring that families that meet the requirements of Law 2,116/2009 do not remain destitute while the vulnerable conditions last,” said Afonso.
SEASDH technicians detailed that, during a period of 90 days, a socioeconomic survey of each family will be carried out, with collection of documents and visits to prepare technical reports.
Families that meet the law’s requirements will be entitled to the benefit for up to three years. Those who do not comply will be disconnected from the program, in accordance with legislation, as explained by Hilquias de Araújo, from the SEASDH Social Assistance Policy Directorate.
Despite the proposal, one of the residents’ representatives, Francimar Paiva da Conceição, refused the government’s offer and reaffirmed that the families will continue to camp in front of the Legislative Assembly.
The proposal was forwarded to prosecutor Thalles Ferreira Costa, who, through his advisor Karina Guimarães Alencar, demanded information from the state government about the measures taken in relation to the families.
