The impeachment request for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has just been approved.
which was scheduled for 4 am this Saturday (14), Brasília time, was decided with 204 votes in favor and 96 against.
To be approved, the request needed at least two-thirds of the votes, the equivalent of 200 parliamentary seats.
With the impeachment approved, the president will be removed from exercising his powers and the Prime Minister, Han Duck-Soo, will take over on an interim basis.
Now, the case will be sent to the Constitutional Court, which has up to six months to decide whether to remove the president from office or reinstate him.
If the court chooses to remove him from office, or in the event of the president’s resignation, a new presidential election will take place 60 days after the decision.
