He was arrested this Saturday (14), the former Minister of Defense Walter Braga Nettoalso former deputy of Jair Bolsonaro on the 2022 ticket. The soldier is the target of an investigation investigating an alleged attempted coup d’état to prevent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking office in 2022.
According to the blog of journalist Andréia Sadi, from GloboNews, the Federal Police say that Braga Netto:
- He had a relevant participation in criminal acts, and was “the head, the mastermind of the coup – but under Bolsonaro’s command”
- Coordinated illicit actions carried out by military personnel trained in Special Forces (“black kids”)
- Delivered money in a wine bag to finance operations
- Tried to obtain confidential data from the collaboration agreement of Mauro Cid, Bolsonaro’s former aide-de-camp
- Tried to control the information provided and align versions among those investigated
- It took effective action in coordinating clandestine actions to try to arrest and execute Federal Supreme Court minister Alexandre de Moraes
Braga Netto tried to obtain confidential data from Cid’s testimony
The Federal Police (PF) also identified, according to the CNN Brazilthat Braga Netto would be trying to obtain confidential data from the plea bargain of former aide-de-camp Mauro Cid. This would have been one of the key points for the arrest warrant.
At the end of last month, Mauro Cid was heard again by the PF. Reporting details about Braga Netto’s role in the alleged coup attempt would have been essential to maintain the benefits of the award-winning collaboration.
Braga Netto’s defense has not yet commented this Saturday. In November, after being indictedBraga Netto said that “it was never a coup”.
