(Bloomberg) – Former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi underwent successful hip replacement surgery on Saturday and is “recovering well” at Congress to commemorate a World War II battle against Nazi Germany , informed his spokesperson.
Pelosi, 84, was injured on Friday during an official engagement marking 80 years since the Battle of the Bulge. U.S. Representative Derrick Van Orden said he was standing next to Pelosi when she fell. THE New York Times reported that she fractured her hip.
Pelosi was treated by military personnel at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, a US military hospital in western Germany, and Kirchberg Hospital in Luxembourg, her spokesman, Ian Krager, said in a statement on Saturday (14).
She is grateful to both hospitals “for their excellent care and kindness,” she said.
Many of the members of the congressional delegation had relatives who fought in World War II, including Pelosi’s uncle, Johnny, according to Krager.
Representative Michael McCaul, a Texas Republican who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said on X who was disappointed that Pelosi could not participate in the delegation’s weekend events, “as I know how eager she was to honor our veterans.”
