Up to 300 Ukrainians died during the attack.

Between December 6 and 7, North Korean troops captured the village of Plechovo in Russia’s Kursk region, which was previously controlled by Ukrainian soldiers. As many as 300 Ukrainians were killed during the attack, TASR informs based on reports from the American and European media.

The North Korean army swept through the village in two hours

According to the report of the “Romanov Light” account on the Telegram social network, the army of North Korea (DPRK) “ran through the village like a hurricane in two hours and took no prisoners”, Newsweek reports. Russian military blogger Yuri Kotenok also reported on the battle on the Telegram network. Newsweek was unable to confirm these statements.

Footage from the village was also published by the news portal First Source Report immediately after the fight. In the footage, he allegedly identified North Korean soldiers tending to their wounded. According to the portal, other sources claim that they are soldiers of the 810th brigade of the Russian marines. Even the truth of this version does not exclude the participation of North Korean troops in this battle.

Newsweek has reached out to the Ukrainian and Russian defense ministries and the North Korean embassy in the UK for comment, but have yet to hear back.

The American think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russian armed forces captured two more villages – Darjino and Novoivanovka – in the Kursk region on Thursday. According to the US, North Korean troops first engaged in combat against Ukrainian troops in early November. Washington estimated their number in the Kursk region at up to 10,000, another 12,000 are located in the rest of the country.

The Ukrainian intelligence services, through leaflets and videos, call on the soldiers of the DPRK to stop fighting alongside Russia and leave Ukraine, Euronews reports. The distribution of these materials falls under the Ukrainian project ‘I want to live’. It was created after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and initially targeted Russian soldiers.
