Vitória’s balance in 2024 was positive, both for winning the Campeonato Baiano and for the place in the 2025 Copa Sudamericana, after a recovery campaign to escape relegation. Under the command of coach Thiago Carpini, Leão achieved such good numbers in the second round that they finished Serie A with one of the club’s five best seasons in terms of points.
The red and black team ended the competition in 11th place, with 13 wins, eight draws and 17 defeats. In total, 47 points were added over the 38 rounds – six below the classification zone for the pre-Libertadores and five above Z4. With a contract renewed until the end of next year, the commander celebrated the positive outcome of 2024 and planned the next season.
“The face of Vitória in 2025 will be the face of a competitive team, which does not give up on its ideas. We are happy for everything that was achieved in this very complicated season”, said Carpini, after the draw with Flamengo in the final round of the Brasileirão.
11th place was the club’s third best position in the first division since the current straight points format was adopted. It is worth remembering that the formula with 20 teams began in 2006, when the red and black team was in Series B. Two years later, Leão reached the elite and finished the competition in 10th – second best place for the red and black team in this particular ranking. .
The best campaign in relation to the league table occurred in the historic 2013 season, when Vitória set, at the time, a record among northeastern teams in the Brasileirão, with 5th place. The position was only surpassed in 2021 and 2024, when Fortaleza managed to finish 4th.
And what about points?
Who opens this podium, in 3rd place, is the 2009 season, with 48 points added. At the time, Vitória was led by Paulo César Carpegiani and Vágner Mancini and achieved 13 wins, nine draws and 16 defeats. In the end, despite the good score, Leão only finished in 13th place.
In addition to the second best campaign in relation to the classification, the 2008 season was also the second with the most points won, with 52. The campaign was responsible for giving place to the South American Championship for the first time in the history of the Bahian club. On the field, 15 opponents were defeated, in addition to seven draws and 16 defeats.
The 2013 season, in addition to the best score, bears the fact that it was the year with the most points added: 59. Under the command of Caio Júnior and Ney Franco, Leão finished the Brasileirão with 16 wins, 11 draws and 11 defeats.
