In the decision authorizing the arrest by the Federal Police of General Braga Netto, Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court, considered that the investigations into the Contragolpe operation and testimonies from collaborator Mauro Cid “revealed the extremely serious participation” of the reserve soldier in the facts investigated.
“In a true role of leadership, organization and financing, in addition to demonstrating relevant evidence that the person represented acted, repeatedly, to embarrass the investigations”, says the decision.
The arrest was made at the request of the Federal Police after a favorable opinion from the Attorney General’s Office. The minister also authorized search and seizure in relation to him and Colonel Flávio Botelho Peregrino, the general’s advisor. Both are suspected of involvement in an attempted coup d’état and obstruction of justice for trying to hinder investigations into the episode.
According to a note from the STF, in relation to the two people being investigated, the minister also ordered the prohibition of contact with other people being investigated and ordered the removal of the secrecy of the decision, the representation of the Federal Police and the opinion of the Attorney General’s Office.
The decision to arrest Braga Netto was made on Wednesday (10), but as he was in Alagoas with his family, the PF opted to comply with the order shortly after he returned to his residence, in Rio de Janeiro.
