Almost 10 years after his last match as a player in Brazilian football, Adriano will return to the Maracanã pitch, this Sunday (15), in his farewell game. Before the , the former striker spoke briefly to the press upon arriving at the stadium and appeared quite emotional.
“The importance of the moment is to remember my friends. Thank God, Father in Heaven is always enlightening me, leaving me in peace. My family is here. My children are here. That’s what matters. The people who came,” said Adriano.
“I am very happy to be able to see my friends and teammates again. Even more so at Maracanã. You don’t know the emotion I have. I’m very grateful for all of this”, added the former striker.
This Sunday (15), at Maracanã, the “Last Battle of the Emperor” will bring together world football stars for the farewell game of Adriano, a former striker who made history for Italy.
The game will feature former teammates, friends and players who were part of Adriano’s career. Protagonist of the party, the Emperor will play for Flamengo and for Inter.
Adriano’s career
Adriano Imperador was trained in the youth divisions of Flamengo, a club he played for in 2000 and 2001 before moving to Inter Milan. It was in Italy that the center forward made his career and earned the nickname “Emperor”.
There were eight titles with Inter, and his performance led him to the Brazilian team, being champion of the Copa América in 2004 and the Confederations Cup in 2005.
In 2008, he returned to Brazilian football. Adriano played for São Paulo for a season before returning to Flamengo, where he was Brazilian champion in 2009.
Before ending his career, he played for Roma, in Italy, Corinthians and Athletico-PR, in addition to a brief spell at Miami United, in the United States, in 2016.
