The president (PT) praised the performance of the president of the , (PSD-MG), in defending the Democratic Rule of Law after the and assessed that lies are enemies of democracy, which needs to be built every day.
The demonstrations appear in the afterword written by Lula for the book “Echoes of Democracy”, by Pacheco. The work brings together speeches by the senator from 2021 to 2024.
The 403-page book has 93 manifestations. The president, in the afterword, recognizes the natural differences between heads of Power, but argues that this cannot mean the installation of authoritarian regimes.
“We can disagree, because divergence is part of democracy. But we don’t need to be enemies”, writes Lula. “Our enemies are others. They are those who deny democracy, but use it to come to power and install an authoritarian regime. Perfecting democracy is recognizing that democracy for a few is not democracy.”
The president cites the attacks of January 8, 2023 and states that Pacheco was a firm voice in defense of the Democratic Rule of Law during this troubled period in the country. “Against the denialists, our weapons will always be more democracy, more politics, more knowledge and more dialogue.”
Lula also remembers that democracy “is never ready and finished, it needs to be built and cared for every day.” “Democracy has other enemies, besides those who conspire against it. Hunger is the enemy of democracy. Hatred is the enemy of democracy. Misinformation and lies are the enemies of democracy. Inequality is the enemy of democracy”, he adds.
