A series of earthquakes have been recorded along a giant fault, about 150 feet long, located in the midwest of the United States.
This fault is called the New Madrid and runs through Missouri, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois.
Between December 6 and 11, the US Geological Survey recorded seven earthquakes in Missouri and one in Tennessee. The largest of them were magnitudes 3 and 2.6, while others were around 2, reports Noi.mdreading .
Scientists believe that this massive fault could actually generate a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake within the next 50 years.
According to Robbie Myers, emergency management coordinator for the Missouri Department of Safety, the probability is currently estimated at 40 percent, but it only increases each year.
