The president () became emotional when talking about his hospitalization for emergency surgery after intracranial bleeding. He was discharged from hospital this Sunday (15).
“I never think I’m going to die, but I’m afraid,” said the president, who also thanked God and said he was scared by the urgency of the surgery after finding bleeding.
Lula left the hospital and went to his home in São Paulo. He is expected to stay in the city until Thursday, when he will undergo a CT scan. After that, you can go to Brasília.
The PT member said he was cutting his fingernails when he fell and injured himself.
Lula was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday (10) due to a three-centimeter hematoma detected between the brain and one of the membranes (meninges) that surround the organ.
He had felt severe headaches on Monday (9), when he was taken to the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in .
Lula underwent embolization to reduce the risk of further intracranial bleeding. According to cardiologist Roberto Kalil, the PT member’s doctor, the procedure was a success and does not change anything in the president’s recovery.
Lula was hospitalized after undergoing emergency surgery on Tuesday (10) due to a three-centimeter hematoma detected between the brain and one of the membranes (meninges) that surround the organ.
The hematoma formed at Palácio da Alvorada, on October 19th. On that occasion, Lula fell from a bench in the bathroom while cutting his nails, and had to receive stitches on the back of his head.
Embolization of the meningeal arteries —which irrigate the meninges, membranes that cover the central nervous system— aims to interrupt the flow of blood towards the capsule formed by the intracranial hematoma.
A study published last month in the scientific journal New England of Medicine shows that the recurrence of bleeding in patients who underwent surgery was 9%, while among those who underwent surgery and then embolization, it was 3%. Previous research has shown even larger differences — from 11% to 3%.
