The president of the Italian Republic met today in Rome with the president of the Palestinian Authority (Abu Mazen).
“We hope that the solution of two states and two peoples will be immediate (as) without this perspective, violence will constantly break out,” Mattarella stressed.
At the same time, he expressed concern about what is happening in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with the Jewish settlement that goes against the resolutions of the UN and the violence against the Palestinians.
“After the cease-fire in Gaza, the Palestinian Authority should have a central role,” stressed the Italian president.
Mahmoud Abbas, for his part, asked Italy to recognize the Palestinian State and added: “what happened on October 7 (of 2023) is inhumane and unacceptable. We are not in favor of violence, we asked Hamas to release the hostages.”
