A white tablecloth is an elegant table decoration, which also becomes traditional on Christmas Eve. Therefore, it is worth making sure that this classic decoration element looks festive, neat and spotless. Unfortunately, white tablecloths often turn yellow or stained, which causes them to lose their dignified charm. Fortunately, they can be restored to their snow-white color using home methods. It’s simpler than you think.
A table covered with a white tablecloth is one of the symbols of holidays in Poland. Therefore, every housewife makes every effort to ensure that it looks sublime and elegant. Unfortunately, even with the greatest care, it may happen that unwanted stains appear on the fabric or it simply turns yellow. If you want to restore the whiteness of the tablecloth before the Christmas Eve supper, do not use chemical detergents, but use proven home remedies.
One of them is of course which has versatile uses at home. It’s universal a cleaning agent that also has bleaching properties. It will be a perfect solution for a slightly yellowed tablecloth. Just add 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda to warm water. Immerse the tablecloth in this solution and leave it for a few hours. After this time, wash the fabric and enjoy the tablecloth, which has become white again and free of unpleasant odors.
If not baking soda, it’s worth reaching for lemon juice. This is another way to use natural bleach that will help restore the whiteness of your tablecloth. Lemon works on a similar principle to baking soda. All you need is 3-4 teaspoons of lemon juice added to a bowl of water in which the tablecloth is dipped. There will be no trace of yellowing and stains, and the tablecloth will become pure white and have a fresh scent.

It’s also worth trying on yellowed tablecloths a way I learned about from my grandmother. This is a somewhat forgotten method that was once considered cult when it comes to… restoring whiteness to fabrics. My grandma every year whiten the tablecloth using sour milk. Although this is not an obvious method, it is extremely effective.
To whiten a tablecloth with sour milk, simply mix the product with water in a 1:8 ratio. Put a yellowed tablecloth into the mixture prepared in this way and leave it for a few hours, preferably overnight. Next day remove the tablecloth from the mixture and wash it as usual — by hand or in a washing machine.
Lactic acid found in sour milk acts as a natural bleach, which removes yellow discoloration and stains and restores lost whiteness. Thanks to my grandmother’s home method, Every year, the tablecloths for Christmas Eve in our house are snow-white and pleasant to the touch.
