The woman was sentenced to 13 weeks in prison, suspended for one year.
A British court on Monday gave a suspended sentence to a woman who threw a milkshake at far-right politician and leader of the Reform UK party Nigel Farage during the election campaign. TASR informs about it according to the AFP agency.
25-year-old Victoria Thomas Bowen threw a glass of milk drink at Farage in early June during the height of the election campaign for the House of Commons of the British Parliament. The incident happened in the Clacton constituency, east of London, in which the leader of Reform UK was running for election.
Bowen confessed to the crime. On Monday, the relevant judge sentenced the perpetrator to 13 weeks in prison suspended for one year.
Farage criticized the verdict
Farage, who was elected to parliament for the first time by citizens, criticized the verdict. “We live in a country where you can attack a member of parliament and you won’t go to jail,” he wrote on the social network X. He also said the sentence was “the latest example of double justice”.
The far-right politician also complained in court that he “felt humiliated” by the attack and that the act contributed to “growing fears for his safety”. At the same time, Bowen’s lawyer stated at the hearing that his client had received several threatening messages since the incident.
The AFP agency reminds that the Reform UK party entered the British Parliament for the first time after the July elections, where it is represented by five MPs.
