Project led by SAF and John Textor aims to expand sporting and commercial capabilities
Botafogo has plans to build a new stadium. The project aims to expand the club’s sporting and commercial possibilities. The initiative is part of a restructuring process under the management of SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol), led by John Textor since 2022. The information was released by on Sunday (15.dec.2024)
The new Botafogo stadium will have a capacity of 20 to 25 thousand people. It will complement the use of the Nilton Santos Stadium. “By the end of 2026, we will deliver the new Botafogo CT. Furthermore, we plan to develop a smaller stadium, so that it works together with Nilton Santos”said Thairo Arruda, CEO of Botafogo.
The construction of a smaller capacity stadium aims to optimize the use of the Nilton Santos Stadium, which has become a reference for major events in Rio de Janeiro.
The introduction of a 2nd stadium will allow Botafogo to attract more events and guarantee matches without significant changes to the schedule.
“We can attract more shows and, in case of date conflicts, use our second stadium. The new space will allow women’s football and youth teams to better develop.”said Arruda.
The modular stadium promises faster construction and the possibility of adaptation and expansion according to the club’s future needs.
