Herring We associate them primarily with holidays. Sometimes during the year we reach for a herring salad, but we rarely prepare pan-fried herring. Meanwhile, this fish is exceptionally suitable for frying.

Let this year’s holidays be an opportunity for you to find out. Roasted herring they are most delicious when we have fresh fish at our disposal. As a last resort, you can prepare them from brine fillets. It is worth marinating them before frying. Don’t skimp on spices either. Herring they will gain a delicate consistency and truly delicious taste.

Here is the list of ingredients needed to prepare this recipe:

  • 500 g herring fillets,
  • 300 ml of water,
  • 100 ml of wine vinegar,
  • 1 onion,
  • 2 grains of allspice,
  • 1 clove of garlic,
  • 1 tablespoon of finely chopped parsley,
  • 3 eggs,
  • salt, pepper,
  • wheat flour, breadcrumbs,
  • canola oil,
  • 1 lemon (for serving).

Clean the herring and divide into fillets. If you use brined herring fillets, soak them in water. Soak until they get the right flavor. Dry.

Cut the onion into slices. Boil water with vinegar, onion and allspice. Cook for a while on low heat. Cool the brine and add the herrings. Put in the fridge for an hour. Beat the eggs in a bowl. Add pressed garlic, parsley, salt and pepper.

Remove the herring from the marinade and dry it. Coat in flour, eggs with spices and breadcrumbs. Fry in hot oil until golden brown – about 2 minutes on each side. Serve hot or cold, with lemon slices (squeeze lemon juice on the herring just before consumption).
