Trump says he is troubled by footage of the bloodshed from the conflict.
Newly elected US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he would like to talk with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about ending the war in Ukraine. He said that he was concerned about the images of bloodshed from this conflict, reports TASR according to Reuters.
“It has to stop,” Trump told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago residence. Asked if he thought Ukraine should cede territory to Russia as part of negotiations to settle the nearly three-year war, Trump did not directly answer.
President Trump has a “very good plan”, but he doesn’t want to reveal it yet
According to him, a large part of the disputed territory was turned into rubble and its restoration will take a whole century. He revealed that he had seen photographs of battlefields littered with corpses that reminded him of some of the gruesome photographs from the 1861-1865 American Civil War.
He reiterated that he would like to end the war quickly, but was reticent about the details. In an interview with Time magazine published last week, he revealed that he had a “very good plan” to help, but that if he revealed it now, it would “become an almost worthless plan.”
