Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, () says he remains interested in being an alternative for the Presidency in 2026, despite some allies saying that he has lost space in recent months to other names on the center-right.
“I remain focused on helping to build an alternative for 2026 that is not Lula or Bolsonaro. I was already willing to be that name in 2022, why wouldn’t it be now?”, he tells the Panel.
Members of the PSDB and other parties say behind the scenes that Leite lost ground this year to other names that have placed themselves more explicitly in the succession process, such as the governors of Goiás, Ronaldo Caiado (União Brasil), and of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (New).
Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans) from São Paulo is also mentioned as an alternative, although he says he will support Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
