More than 100 entities signed a letter of rejection of the proposal to regulate the use of drones for aerial spraying of pesticides in , considered by them “a serious setback for public policies for environmental protection and the health of the population”.
At the beginning of the month, governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) signaled support for the liberalization of this practice and, since then, it has been . Last week, the (Landless Rural Workers Movement) said that the PT member’s stance “is contradictory for someone who has always followed popular struggles to combat the use of pesticides.”
In the entities’ letter, they recall that the bills that open up the possibility of using drones attempt to “modify the essence of the Zé Maria do Tomé Law”, of 2019, which was co-authored by the current governor.
“With the advancement of bills that seek to make this important legislation more flexible, entities find themselves compelled to warn of the risks of irreversible damage”, says an excerpt from the statement, which was released this Friday (13) with the endorsement of the Commission Pastoral da Terra and Fetraece (Federation of Rural Workers, Farmers and Family Farmers of the State of Ceará), for example.
