The minister of the (Federal Supreme Court) gave a self-defense and jiu-jitsu seminar to police officers from Bope (Special Police Operations Battalion) of the Military Police of Brazil, last Friday (13).
A red and white belt in jiu-jitsu, the second highest degree, the minister participated in the inauguration of mats where there will be martial art classes for children and young people in Complexo da Maré, in Rio de Janeiro, through the Maré Top Team project.
“I understand that jiu-jitsu is a unique educational instrument. Jiu-jitsu has established itself in the world today precisely because of its concern for social issues. I think prevention work is fundamental because it is much more important than repression”, said the minister to the LBV (Legião da Boa Vontade), a partner in the project.
“Repression has side effects that end up, so to speak, generating a bad image for some people. Prevention, as the ancients said, is much better than cure. Prevention prepares the member of an institution, a police officer, to be able to avoid a more serious action.”
