The Norwegian government also donates demining systems to Ukraine.
Norway will provide NOK 2.7 billion (about 230 million euros) to Ukraine’s navy to help deter Russian forces in the Black Sea, the Norwegian government announced on Monday. TASR informs about it based on the AFP report.
“Ukraine needs more support in the coming period to deter Russian naval forces in the Black Sea. It is essential to protect the Ukrainian population and Ukrainian infrastructure from attacks by the Russian Black Sea Fleet,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Störe said in a statement.
The Norwegian prime minister further added that “it is also important to protect the export of grain and other products by sea, which brings crucial income to Ukraine.”
This year, the Norwegian government allocated NOK 100 million to the Ukrainian Navy for naval training and other necessary measures. On Monday, the government announced that it had approved another aid package worth NOK 2.6 billion.
According to Norwegian Defense Minister Björn Arild Gram, mines threaten security in the Black Sea, so Norway will also provide Ukraine with demining systems. According to him, the Ukrainian army will thus be able to “detect and neutralize mines along its coast”.
