MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (16) accused the West of pushing Russia towards its “red lines” – situations that the country has publicly made clear it will not tolerate – and said Moscow is being forced to respond.
stated at a meeting of defense officials that Russia observes with concern the development and possible deployment of short- and medium-range weapons by the United States.
He said he would lift all of his voluntary restrictions on the deployment of his own missiles if the US goes ahead and deploys such missiles.

Putin, who has said Russian forces in Ukraine have taken control of 189 settlements so far this year, has said Russia’s nuclear weapons exist for deterrence.
