Almost two months after the , Movimiento Sumar —Yolanda Díaz’s party, in turn integrated into the coalition of Sumar parties— already has a substitute for writing the political presentation of its next assembly. The Secretary of State for Social Rights, Rosa Martínez, relieves the former parliamentary spokesperson in the preparation of this document, which will be the basis of discussion at the meeting that will be held on March 29 and 30. The party assembly, which was and must decide on Díaz’s replacement and the organizational model of the formation, was postponed at the request of the militants of the territories, coinciding with the crisis unleashed by the resignation of Errejón, accused of sexual harassment.

Martínez (León, 49 years old), Pablo Bustinduy’s number two in the ministry, is one of the four interim coordinators of Movimiento Sumar since the second vice president stepped aside last June. The political scientist, social activist and historian also serves as head of Ecosocial Transformation in the party executive. As announced this Monday by the head of Organization, Lara Hernández, among the fundamental axes of the document are “feminism, the ecological transition, the reduction of working hours and the defense of public services.”

Former member of Equo, between 2016 and 2019 Rosa Martínez was a deputy for Vizcaya on the lists of Podemos and Unidos Podemos. In 2019 he left Equo and continued as an independent within the coalition. In 2020 she lost the party’s primaries to be a Lendakari candidate and left politics, to which she returned in 2023.

The new person in charge of the presentation has the challenge of developing the ideological thesis of the organization in a , when Sumar does not rise in the polls and without being the orchestra director of the entire coalition, whose parties, since the poor results of the Europeans, demand one with Díaz’s formation. The rest of the organizations, in fact, will no longer be in this second assembly, nor will they be part of the executive, as was initially planned, when those of Díaz intended to be the umbrella of all the other political forces and evolve into something more than a mere electoral confluence.

The preparation work for the March meeting will also be carried out in a complex context, with the Budget negotiations underway, with no certainty for its approval and with Podemos and Junts exerting increasing pressure on the Government.
