Objects were spotted in the New York region; Homeland Security secretary says no threats were detected
The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican Party), said that the North American government should take down the “mysterious drones” that have been spotted in the country’s skies in recent days. On Sunday (Dec 15, 2024), Secretary Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas, declared that no threats were detected.
“Mysterious drone sightings across the country. Could this really be happening without our government’s knowledge? I don’t think so! Let the public know, and now. Otherwise, shoot them!”, Trump na rede social Truth Social.
The drones were spotted last week, especially in the northeast of the country, in places like New York and New Jersey.
On Sunday (Dec 14), the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul (Democratic Party), issued a statement in which she said that the White House responded to a request made by her and is “deploying a state-of-the-art drone detection system” not State.
“This system will support state and federal law enforcement authorities in their investigations”, he declared.
The Secretary of Homeland Security on his profile on X (formerly Twitter) understands the reasons why residents are concerned about the situation. According to him, the federal government “mobilized personnel and technology” to deal with the situation and is assisting the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigationthe US intelligence service) in its investigation.
“To date, there is no known threat posed by these sightings. If a threat is identified, the federal government will address it and communicate it to the American public“, he wrote.
“There is no doubt that drones have been sighted. It’s also true that many reported sightings turned out to be piloted aircraft. The technology we deployed in New Jersey confirmed this”, says Mayorkas.
