Eurico Brilhante Dias remembers that, more important than being a candidate for the presidential elections, is winning the elections.
There is still no official candidate for the presidential elections (more than a year to go), but there has been talk of several possible candidates for Belém.
Including on the left: Mário Centeno, António José Seguro or Augusto Santos Silva are names linked to PS – but Eurico Brilhante Dias calls for “caution”.
The former parliamentary leader of the PS thinks that any candidate should only enter the race after having secured the support of the socialists. Because, more important than being a candidate for the presidential elections, is winning the elections.
For Eurico Brilhante Dias, the PS must “amend the mistakes of recent years” and not be divided in the presidential elections, “seeking to maintain the unity of the party and support a strong candidate”.
In , the deputy indicates that only with “the united support of the PS and Portuguese socialists” will Portugal be able to once again have a president of the Republic on the socialist side – something that has not happened since 2006.
“Don’t jump into the pool without a solid buoy, like the Socialist Party”, appeals Eurico Brilhante Dias.
The PS activist hopes that there will be, first, an internal discussion within the party: “We obviously hope that each of the possible candidates sees this moment as a defining moment, a moment in which the support of the PS is also decisive for the success of your in-person candidacy”.
