At least 138 people died in plane crashes that occurred in 2024, according to data from the Brazilian Air Force compiled by CNN.
Between January 1st and December 5th – the date of the last fatal aerial incident this year – 40 fatal accidents were recorded throughout Brazil. Of these, the majority occurred in the state of São Paulo.
Most of those killed in plane crashes in 2024 were occupants of Voepass flight 2283, which crashed on August 9 in Vinhedo (SP). The aircraft, an ATR 72-500, had 62 people on board, 58 passengers and four crew members. Nobody survived.

The final report of the investigation by the Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) has not yet been completed. The preliminary report, however, indicates that – which may indicate that the presence of ice is related to the fall.
The second plane crash with the highest number of deaths in 2024 occurred at the end of January, when . None of the aircraft’s occupants – two crew members and five passengers – survived.
The plane, a single-engine turboprop model PA-46-350P that was going from Campinas to Belo Horizonte, crashed in an area in the rural area of Itapeva. As the crow flies, the crash site is approximately 90 kilometers from the takeoff location and approximately 250 kilometers from the airfield where it was supposed to land.
Among the passengers were businessmen Marcílio Franco and André Amaral, who were partners in the company Credfranco, based in Belo Horizonte.
The third aircraft crash with the highest number of victims this year was the accident with a Minas Gerais Fire Department helicopter on October 11 in Ouro Preto, in the interior of the state. Six people died.
The six agents on board were on a rescue mission.

The number of deaths in air accidents in Brazil in 2024 represents an increase of 79.2% compared to the previous year. In 2023, 77 people lost their lives in aerial incidents across the country.
In the last six years, 524 people died in plane crashes in Brazil, according to FAB data. The year 2024 was the year that recorded the most deaths in the period.
