Atricon (Association of Members of the Audit Courts of Brazil) and the CNPTC (National Council of Presidents of the Audit Courts) released a public note in defense of counselor Daniel Itapary Brandão, of the Maranhão State Court of Auditors last week.
He is the nephew of the governor of , Carlos Brandão (PSB), and his leadership to the main chair of the TCE — which is an auxiliary body of the Legislative Power — occurs amid questions about the practice of cross-nepotism between the Legislative Assembly and the state government.
Solidariedade demanded, in action before the (Supreme Federal Court), his removal from office “to protect the impartiality and independence necessary for the exercise of the supervisory function of the Court of Auditors and the Legislative Assembly”.
For the entities, the election of the advisor “followed due legal and legitimate process, as established in the Organic Law and the internal regulations of that court of accounts”.
“Such procedure is in perfect harmony with the Federal Constitution, which ensures the administrative and organizational autonomy of the Audit Courts”, continue the entities. Daniel has been a counselor since February 2023.
