Donald Trump introduces the new US ambassador to Uruguay: "He is a great golfer"

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, nominated this Monday as the new ambassador to Uruguay Lou Rinaldi, a businessman whom he defined as a “lifelong friend” and “great golfer.”

“Lou is a great golfer and will be in a country with some excellent courses,” he said in a statement from his transition team.

“A successful businessman, entrepreneur and lifelong friend, Lou brings a lifetime of experience and a unique perspective to this important role,” Trump added.

Rinaldi grew up in Uruguay after his family emigrated to that country from Italy. As an adult, he emigrated to the United States.

“Having grown up in Uruguay, he has a deep understanding of the country’s culture and history,” Trump said.

The ambassador’s position must be confirmed by the Senate, a chamber in which the Republicans will have the majority starting in January.
