Koldo García arrives at the Supreme Court to testify about the corruption plot in the Ministry of Transportation
Koldo García has already reached the Supreme Court. The one who was an advisor to José Luis Ábalos in the Ministry of Transport (between 2018 and 2021) has arrived with his lawyer in a taxi and did not want to make statements to the media. García, wearing a dark suit and a serious expression, entered the court 20 minutes before 10:00, the time set for his statement.
Ábalos’ former advisor is summoned to testify this Tuesday as being investigated for the alleged corrupt plot in which he is identified as the first link between the Administration and businessman Víctor de Aldama, considered the main commission agent of the network. García was arrested on February 20, the day the case to which he gave his name broke out, but in his previous court appearance, before the National Court, he refused to testify. This Tuesday he has the opportunity to do so and defend himself against the accusations leveled against him by Aldama, who attributes to him the collection of large cash commissions, and by Ábalos, who offloaded responsibility for some of the alleged irregularities on his former advisor.
The Civil Guard places García, who was also a director of RENFE and a member of the State Ports Governing Council, at the center of an alleged corrupt plot that did business with the sale of masks to the Ministries of Transport and the Interior and to the communities of Canary Islands and Balearic Islands. In addition to these suspicions, in recent weeks there have been alleged bribes over the awarding of public works, in which Aldama points to Koldo García as the person who informed him of “pre-awarding” of contracts with which, supposedly, the companies were companies bitten “in the future”.
The judge is investigating him for the crimes of influence peddling, bribery, money laundering and membership in a criminal organization. Although until now he has not testified in court, he has given interviews in which he has reduced his ability to influence and distanced himself from any irregularity.
