Two other people were injured; city hall said it was investigating the causes of the accident
One person died and two others were injured after a Christmas tree fell this Monday (Dec 16, 2024) into the Araçatiba lagoon, in Maricá, in the metropolitan region of Rio. The tree would be inaugurated on Tuesday (Dec 17).
Videos circulating on the internet recorded the moment in which the structure of the floating tree was knocked down by the force of the wind and fell into the sea.

In a statement, Maricá City Hall said that the victim, an employee who was working on assembling the tree, was rescued by Samu teams and taken to Conde Modesto Leal Municipal Hospital, where he did not resist and died. The other two victims are out of danger and one of them has already been discharged.
“The Municipality of Maricá deeply regrets the tragedy that occurred on the afternoon of this Monday (Dec 16, 2024), in Lagoa de Araçatiba, when one person died and two were injured after the fall of the Christmas tree structure that was being assembled. The City Hall is providing full support to the victims and their families, in addition to investigating the causes of the accident.”said the city hall in a note sent to the Poder360.
