According to Tusk, Western countries must do everything in order for Ukraine to come out of the war with Russia without territorial losses and with an idea of its future security.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv on Tuesday that Poland will do everything in its power to make the prospect of Ukraine’s membership in NATO more and more realistic. However, he admitted that “it will not be an easy road”. TASR informs about it according to the Reuters, AFP and PAP agencies.
Tusk said that during Poland’s six-month presidency of the EU Council, which begins in January, he will work to speed up Ukraine’s accession process to NATO.
“Ukraine has no reason to retreat. Ukraine is a victim of aggression. It is Russia that must come to its senses. I am convinced that Ukraine will participate, and must participate, in all talks regarding its future. Above all, however, we will make sure that none of these talks lead to unfair decisions,” declared the Polish Prime Minister on the sidelines of potential peace talks.
Zelensky’s challenge
At a meeting with the Polish Prime Minister, Zelenskyy called on other countries to urgently send more aid to the Ukrainian troops, who are fighting better-equipped Russian forces on several front lines.
Poland is among the biggest supporters of Ukraine. Warsaw provided its neighbor with a large amount of heavy equipment and military aid totaling more than three billion euros. Poland also accepted almost a million Ukrainian refugees.
