Debtors will have until January 17, 2025 to pay off debts with special conditions, such as installments and extended deadlines
Consumers who are in debt to banks, water, electricity and telephone service companies, or other sectors, now have the opportunity to get out of the red and negotiate their debts with online or in-person service at State Procons.
The 2nd edition of Renegocia, a debt negotiation effort, began this Monday (Dec 16, 2024). The initiative by Senacon (National Consumer Secretariat), a body linked to the Ministry of Justice, aims to help the population prevent debt. Renegocia runs until January 17th.
According to Senacon, the program offers special conditions, such as interest discounts, extended payment terms and installment options.
The end-of-year period was chosen strategically – because it is when workers receive their 13th salary.
Also according to Senacon, in this edition, priority in negotiations will be given to consumers who were victims of the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, riverside residents of the Northern Region of the country, indigenous peoples and female heads of families.
According to the National Confederation of Commerce, around 80% of Brazilian families have some type of debt.
