- a teaspoon of baking powder,
- 150 g wet,
- 3 eggs,
- 175 g of powdered sugar,
- 2 oranges,
- 350 g of powdered sugar,
- additionally: poppy seeds for sprinkling.
Ingredients for the orange mass:
- 8 eggs,
- 2 oranges (peel and juice),
- 2 lemons (peel and juice),
- 200 g of powdered sugar,
- 200 g of butter.
How to do it:
We start by preparing the dough. Scald the oranges, then cut them into slices and put them in a pot. Pour in water and powdered sugar cook everything for about 20 minutes. After this time, remove from the heat and leave to cool. Transfer 100 g of slices to a blender with 75 ml of the cooking liquid and mix until smooth.
Mix all dry ingredients in a separate bowl – flour, baking powder and poppy seeds. Mix until the ingredients are combined. Crack the eggs into a large bowl, add powdered sugar and mix until fluffy for about 5-7 minutes. Pour the orange purée into the mixture and gently combine it with the eggs using a spatula. Add the dry ingredients, mix gently and briefly just until combined.
Line a 20 × 30 cm baking tin with baking paper and pour the dough into it. Bake in an oven preheated to 180 degrees C for about 45 minutes. We check whether the cake is ready using a dry wooden stick. When ready, remove from the oven and leave to cool.
We move on to preparing the orange cream. We scald the oranges and lemons and then grate them to obtain the peel. We also squeeze juice from them. Pour it into a bowl, add the eggs and beat until fluffy. Add sugar, butter and fruit peel. Place the bowl over a pot filled with boiling water. Stir everything over steam until it thickens. This may take a while, so be patient. Leave the finished cream to cool.
Assemble the Poppy Prince when all the ingredients are at room temperature. Cut the cake into three layers and divide the cream into three parts – two larger ones and one smaller one. Place most of the orange mass on the first countertop, cover it with the next one and repeat the procedure. Cover the whole thing with the third layer, and cover the sides of the cakes and the top with a smaller part of the cream. Finally, sprinkle with poppy seeds and put in the fridge for a few hours. The cooled dessert can be cut and served.
