President-elect Donald Trump has indicated that the US government knows the origin of mysterious drone sightings in New Jersey and New York, fueling questions about the incidents, while federal authorities insist there is no evidence of security risks.
“Our military knows where they took off from,” Trump said this Monday (16), without presenting any evidence. “And for some reason they don’t want to comment. And I think it would be better if they said what it is, if our military knows and our president knows. And for some reason they want to keep people in suspense.”
Speaking from his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida, Trump said he “can’t imagine it being the enemy” but raised doubts about that and suggested his property in Bedminster, New Jersey, could be a target. “They are very close to Bedminster. I think I might not spend the weekend in Bedminster,” he said.
President Joe Biden’s administration has said there are no indications of a foreign link to the drones and that in many cases they appear to be manned aircraft, not drones.
“I want to assure the American public that we are on top of this,” Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Sunday on TV’s This Week. ABC. The administration has called on Congress to strengthen powers for interagency responses to drone sightings.
