At first glance it seems as if everything is fine. For years, larger taxi companies in particular have been switching to a “green fleet”. Instead of noisy combustion engines, more and more are humming quietly across the streets of Vienna. But appearances are deceiving. Of 8,200 taxis, only 220 are fully electric. So the “greens” in the fleet are hybrids, 5,500 of them. They are quieter and more environmentally friendly than diesel and gasoline-powered taxis. However, the fleets cannot be completely decarbonized. But that is exactly the plan that the red-pink city government has anchored in the form of a state ordinance.
