Chocolate wreath This is a cake you can make from simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen cupboard or fridge. Its preparation does not take much time, but in your pre-Christmas preparations plan, it is worth taking into account the fact that it should rise for an hour. You won’t need any special form, just wrap the dough appropriately, shape it into a wreath and bake it on a baking tray lined with baking paper. The wreath comes out soft and delicious.
Including recipe for a yeast wreath used filling with dark chocolate, cocoa and butter. However, nothing stops you from turning the dough into:poppy seed or sugar mixed with cinnamon and butter. It will also taste great.
Cake:
- 500 g of wheat flour type 500,
- 2 teaspoons of dry yeast,
- 100 g sugar,
- 3 large eggs,
- 120 g of soft butter,
- 50 ml of milk,
- grated lemon peel,
- a pinch of salt.
Filling:
- 60 g of butter,
- 60 dark chocolate,
- 20 g kakao
- 20 g of sugar.
Additionally:
- icing sugar,
- 1 egg,
- 2 tablespoons of milk.
Start by preparing the dough. Heat the milk until it is warm but not hot. Pour loose yeast, 2 tablespoons of sugar into it and set aside for 5-10 minutes. Pour the flour, remaining sugar, eggs into a large bowl, add a pinch of salt and grated lemon zest. Pour in the previously prepared leaven. Start kneading and finally add soft butter cut into cubes and knead until the dough absorbs the fat. The consistency should be quite loose but smooth. Form a ball, cover with a cloth and set aside for about an hour until it doubles in volume.
Meanwhile, make the chocolate filling. Chop the chocolate finely. Add butter to the pot, add chocolate, cocoa and sugar. Heat everything until the mass becomes shiny and uniform. Set aside.
Now assemble the chocolate wreath. First divide the dough into two parts. Roll each of them into a rectangle, long enough to be wrapped in a circle. Spread each of them with chocolate mass, then roll them up and cut them lengthwise. The filling may flow out. In the next step, gently braid the dough and arrange it in a circle, sticking the edges together.
Brush the top with beaten egg combined with milk, place the wreath on baking paper placed on a baking tray and preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. While the oven is heating up, the dough should be covered and increase in volume a bit. Place the baking tray in the oven and bake the cake for about 40 minutes. Before serving, sprinkle the chocolate wreath with powdered sugar.
