The Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (Fiemg) has been mobilizing to block two “tortoises” from the bill that regulates the operation of offshore wind farms.
. Now, the text must go to presidential sanction.
The term “jabuti” refers to amendments that are made to legislative texts without being related to the original proposal.
In this case, Fiemg defends President Lula’s veto of proposals that, according to the entity, will result in an increase in electricity bills and an increase in carbon dioxide emissions.
The “jabutis” in the Federation’s sights pave the way for the expansion of gas and coal thermoelectric plants, whose production, in addition to being polluting, is more expensive.
“A coal-fired thermoelectric plant pollutes 34 times more than a hydroelectric plant, and a gas plant 20 times more. These choices directly impact our ability to achieve CO2 emissions reduction targets, in addition to harming the pocket of each Brazilian”, said Flávio Roscoe, president of Fiemg, in a statement.
“Today, the 11% of thermoelectric plants in the electrical matrix make the electricity bill 20% more expensive and basic products for the population also more expensive. Expanding these polluting sources until 2050 is a very serious mistake, as it would increase these costs even further”, he concludes.
The entity is taking action on social media, as it believes that “this is not a question of right or left, it is about protecting Brazil”.
