President Mário Bittencourt announced the search for an investor to control the club and does not rule out the role of CEO

The president of Fluminense, Mário Bittencourt, announced on Monday (Dec 16, 2024) the decision to sell full control of a possible SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol) of the club. The change in position contrasts with the previous strategy of maintaining majority control of football with the club.

hired in 2023 to assess the viability of SAF, received authorization to seek buyers. “We order the bank to look for investors, to seek to buy control. Let’s think about the best for Fluminense”said Bittencourt.

The current president, whose term ends in December 2025, has not ruled out taking on the role of CEO after the sale. “If the investor thinks I deserve it and have the conditions for being here for 25 years, I might accept it, what’s the harm in that?”he stated.

The decision on the SAF will be taken at the General Assembly. “The vote does not go through the Deliberative Council or Director. For reasons of transparency, the process will be presented, but the final decision rests with the contributing partners.”he explained.

Fluminense has not yet received official offers from the SAF. The expectation is that the first proposals will arrive in 2025. The decision to fully sell represents a significant change in the club’s policy, which initially planned to maintain a majority stake in football control.
