There is no ceasefire in sight in the rhetorical exchange between Ireland and Israel. After the announced closure of the Israeli embassy, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris spoke of a “diplomacy of distraction” and accused Israel of “devastating war crimes in Gaza.” Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar immediately insulted the Irish Prime Minister as an anti-Semite. Parliament, which meets again on Wednesday for the first time since the November election, plans to soon pass a law that would ban trade with Israel’s occupied territories in the West Bank and the Golan Heights.
