On the morning of December 17, an explosive device attached to a scooter detonated near the entrance of a residential building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow, Russian investigators revealed.
The blast killed 54-year-old Igor Kirillov, chief commander of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Sectors, and his assistant. The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on charges of murder, terrorism and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition (Articles 105, 205 and 222 of the Russian Criminal Code). The investigation is ongoing.

Russia will raise the issue of the killing of Russian nuclear defense chief Igor Kirillov at a UN Security Council meeting it has called for Dec. 20, Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky said.
“We will certainly raise the issue of the terrorist attack against Igor Kirillov at the meeting of the UN Security Council on December 20, which will be dedicated to Western arms supplies to Ukraine and their impact on the prospects for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis,” as he wrote in his Telegram channel.
“Those responsible for this crime must be duly punished and condemned unequivocally by the international community,” he added.
Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said earlier that “the Kiev regime admitted its role in planning a terrorist attack against the head of the Russian radiation, chemical and biological protection troops Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov.”
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, was also placed in charge of the murder.
