Is there such a difference in the various chains of department stores and supermarkets that senors deliberately choose between them? And what is actually important for retirees when making such a choice? Of course, the price of food, but it’s really not everything.
How do merchants lie in wait for shoppers?
What happens to us as we get older cannot be easily described to children and young adults. But it happens slowly and surely to almost everyone. Without disorientation or forgetfulness appearing in middle-aged and elderly people, we increasingly prefer things to be organized in the way we are used to, and moreover, we move better and prefer to move in such a place.
It is also important for sellers, who try their best to satisfy buyers and create an environment where they can find what they are looking for. But at the same time, department stores create an environment where there is not much daylight so that time passes more slowly.
Everything must also be in good light so that the meat looks nice and fresh and the pastry crisp. When the seller finally puts the more expensive products at eye level, plays pleasant music and has enough open cash registers, he is definitely destined for success in all respects. It is certainly not all about pensioners.

Shopping is both annoying and complicated for retirees
Pensioners are most interested in favorable price offers, but also in the diversity of the product range and possibly services. It is important for seniors to have a place to rest, which is mainly solved by rest areas in large shopping centers. Clarity and special offers for pensioners and seniors are no less important.
Of course, these are a huge plus, but they must not be too sloppy, so as not to anger all the other buyers on the other hand. In modern stores, it is also very important to easily process purchases and pay at self-service cash registers or how discounts can be applied. These two actions represent a significant problem and make shopping more complicated and unpleasant for seniors.
Stress often arises precisely when applying discounts. If the cash register operator or sales assistant has a minute to spare, seniors will be happy to use the option of discount cards or other more favorable offers, for example depending on the use of a mobile application and the like. This is what pensioners also complain about. These absolutely unnecessary obstacles prevent them from taking advantage of discounts, and then it doesn’t really matter whether the chain offers better prices or not.
It depends more on the friendliness of the staff than the chain
And which supermarket is the very best for pensioners? At the peak, the Penny and Lidl chains alternate with each other, where, among other things, discount events aimed directly at pensioners sometimes appear.
Why is it not so easy to tell which supermarket is the best? This is mainly due to the fact that the management and service of each supermarket is simply different. This ensemble of each supermarket plays a significantly more important role in how retirees perceive the merchant than the offer itself or associated services typical of each chain. Where they are considerate or even nice to pensioners, seniors don’t have to stress if they are too slow or something is not right for them.
Another important criterion is what the store spaces are like, so it is definitely not possible to say that one chain always has beautifully organized and well-arranged stores, while another does not. In city centers, where these supermarkets are wedged into the original old buildings, there is often not enough space to comfortably move between the shelves. Some of these stores have two floors and you can’t move between them with a mobile cart, they seem crowded and hectic.
If it is the only store of this chain near the residence of a senior citizen, then it is definitely impossible to develop a positive relationship with such a store.
