The athlete traveled to Accra, the country’s capital. There, he is running some social projects with needy children.

What is Memphis Depay’s relationship with Ghana?
Memphis Depay and MC Hariel are recording a music video in the city. Memphis has had a relationship with music for years. The funk player is declared a fanatical fan of the club. The two were seen in studios right when Memphis arrived in Brazil.
The player was invited to participate in the musical project entitled “Falando com as Favelas”, which is part of the four-track EP.
But not only the clip motivated the Memphis trip. In Ghana, the player runs a social project aimed at around 24 thousand deaf and blind young people who live in the country.
Even though he has no contact with his father, who is originally from Ghana, Memphis seeks to maintain and cultivate his roots. This is not the first time he has visited the country.

Why does Memphis Depay hide his last name on the pitch?
In Europe, it is common for athletes’ surnames to appear on their shirts on the field. In the case of the Corinthians reinforcement, only “Memphis” is used.
In an old interview with the BBC, he revealed that since 2012 he has adopted only his first name because “he was abandoned by his father”. Dennis Depay reportedly left his son and was away from his upbringing when the athlete was only four years old and lived in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands.
Due to resentment and having been raised solely by his mother, he asked that “Depay” not be used.

– Don’t call me Depay, you can call me Memphis. I don’t want to explain what happened at home, because people would be embarrassed. That’s how it will be, because I’ve already moved on – Memphis explained at the time.
