Another country is extending border controls: The reason is the increased terrorist risk

On Wednesday, the Slovenian government decided to extend border controls with Croatia and Hungary until June 21, 2025. TASR informs about it based on the HINA agency’s report. The Slovenian government has decided to extend border controls with Croatia and Hungary due to the increased terrorist risk, the STA press agency reported.

Border controls were re-introduced by the Slovenian government on 21 October 2023 due to the worsening security situation in the Middle East and the increased risk of terrorism for Slovenia. Subsequently, in December, it extended this decision until June 22, and then for another six months, until December 21, 2024.

Temporary controls at the border with Slovenia Italy also recovered, also as a result of the changed situation in Europe and the Middle East. Starting in January 2024, the government in Rome is extending this temporary regime every six months.

Controls at the EU’s internal borders are also carried out by Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Norway and Sweden. The Netherlands has announced that it will resume border controls with Belgium and Germany from December 9.
