Lira sidelines Amnesty’s PL in the final stretch of the legislative year

President of the Chamber had said that he would resolve the issue during his term; the assessment is that there is no longer a climate post-indictment of Bolsonaro and suicide bomber in Brasília

The President of the Chamber, (PP-AL), sidelined the PL (bill), which proposes amnesty for those who participated in the acts of January 8, 2023, and concentrated efforts in the final stretch of the 2024 legislative year on establishing the name of (Republicanos-PB) to the presidency and in moving forward with important economic agendas for the president’s government Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT).

On November 1, Lira said that the amnesty PL would have “solution” still in his mandate, which ends in February. He on October 29, the creation of a special commission to analyze the project, but it was never installed. The text was in the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) and, if approved, would go directly to the House plenary. The decision, however, delayed the process.

According to the Poder360the deputy from Alagoas would have assured the (Workers’ Party) that the PL’s analysis of the amnesty would not reach Mottahis likely successor. He would also have told the PL (Liberal Party), which would resolve the matter this year.

The assessment among deputies is that there is no longer a climate to vote on the proposal after the on November 13, caused by Francisco Wanderley Luiz, and the for an alleged coup attempt in 2022. The former president would be one of those who benefited from the approval of the project.

Furthermore, the opposition, which is in favor of approving the project, is also not pushing as hard as before, which would have helped to sideline the proposal.

Congress officially goes into legislative recess on Monday (Dec 23), but deputies and senators must leave Brasília before then, because of the weekend.

In practice, there is less than a week to complete the work. The deputies will, in fact, only return on February 3, when all their energy will be devoted to succession in the Chamber.
