President was released by doctors for short trips; he was in the capital of São Paulo more than a week ago, where he underwent surgery to drain a hemorrhage in his head
The president (PT) returned to Brasília this Thursday (Dec 19, 2024) after being cleared by doctors to travel short distances. He had been in São Paulo for 9 days. In the early hours of December 10, the PT member underwent surgery to drain a hemorrhage in his head and, on the 12th, a procedure to stop future bleeding. He was discharged from the hospital on December 15 and spent the remaining days recovering at his home in the capital of São Paulo.
Lula had a new CT scan this Thursday morning. According to his personal doctor, cardiologist Roberto Kalil, the result was satisfactory and the hematoma no longer exists. Therefore, the president was released to return to Brasília. The president left São Paulo at around 11:20 am and landed in the capital at 12:50 pm. He traveled accompanied by First Lady Janja Lula da Silva, the President’s doctor, Ana Helena Germoglio, and other direct advisors.
Soon after the exams, the PT member left the Sírio-Libanês hospital and went to Congonhas airport. Upon leaving the medical environment, he posed for photos and waved to journalists and supporters. Since the procedures, Lula has started to wear a hat to hide the bandages and the part of his hair that was shaved.
Lula has no official agenda for this Thursday. He landed at the Brasília Air Base and went to the Palácio da Alvorada, in the land train. Although it is the official residence, the place is also used by the president to work.
The PT member intends to hold a ministerial meeting on Friday (Dec 20, 2024) in Alvorada to, according to him, “say some messages” and have an end-of-year get-together. Lula, however, is preparing a ministerial reform that should be implemented after Carnival. There are expectations that the Esplanada will accommodate the Centrão.
According to Kalil, Lula is free to exercise “normal activities” work and your cognitive functions are perfect. The president, however, cannot yet do physical activities. For now, Lula can travel short distances by plane. The PT member must undergo new exams within 10 days. He will spend Christmas and New Year’s Eve in Brasília.
