The Federal Police carried out an operation this Thursday morning (19) which resulted in the location and dismantling of a clandestine drug laboratory in Mogi das Cruzes, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Two people were arrested red handed.

The site was used to manufacture narcotics using nitazenes, a chemical substance with high psychotropic power, considered up to 20 times more powerful than morphine.

According to the PF, this was the first seizure of nitazenes in Brazil with proven use for drug manufacturing.

During the operation, the following were seized:

  • Large quantities of marijuana, crack and nitazenes;
  • Chemical solvents;
  • Detailed notes on the production of narcotics;
  • Precision scales;
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE);
  • Materials used in the manufacturing process.

Images obtained by CNN show the moment of the seizure:

Vehicles, cash and other items related to the operation of the laboratory, which supplied a drug production and distribution network, were also seized.

Among the drugs manufactured at the site was the drug known as K2 or “synthetic marijuana”. The drug is made up of chemical substances that simulate the effects of THC, but with a much greater potential for dependence and serious health risks for users.

The Federal Police reported that they are continuing investigations to identify others involved and dismantle possible connections between the criminal organization and national and international trafficking networks.
